Always read the car seat manual and vehicle manual before installing your car seat.

Studies show that rear-facing is safest for your child. Keep your child rear-facing for as long as your car seat allows.

Always check the car seat expiration date and look to see if there are recalls on your car seat.

The RIGHT Car Seat For MY Child

1. DOES IT FIT MY BABY?

Car seats have weight and height requirements:

  • Before you purchase a seat, check the one you select is for babies at least 5 pounds. Discuss with your doctor if you think you may deliver early. You may need to get a seat with a 4 pound minimum weight.

  • Most car seats have a lower limit. You may need to get a seat with a shorter minimum height requirement

2. DOES IT FIT MY VEHICLE?

All vehicles and car seats are different:

  • Car seats vary in size and shape.

  • Some stores will allow you to check if the car seat fits in your vehicle.

  • Read your vehicle owner’s manual to see where you can put a car seat in your vehicle.

3. WILL I USE IT CORRECTLY EVERY TIME?

  • Check the seat every time to make sure it hasn’t become loose.

  • Your child needs to be positioned in the car seat correctly every time.

  • Some car seats are easier to use than others. Check Ease of Use Ratings at www.safecar.gov/parents/Car-Seat-Safety.

  • You can check the web page of the car seat manufacturer to find videos on how to use each seat.

  • The car seat must be installed in the vehicle correctly.
